At the 2021 NPC and CPPCC of China, "Carbon Peak" and "Carbon Neutrality" were first included in the government work report. At that time, China's sustainable development work started a solid step from major strategic decisions to scientific and systematic deployment. In this trend, the green and low-carbon transformation of the industrial manufacturing sector, which is a major carbon emitter, is urgent.

In order to explore green manufacturing enterprises with outstanding influence and strength nationwide and assist Chinese manufacturing enterprises in exploring new models of green and low-carbon transformation, Forbes China launched the selection of 2022 Forbes China Sustainable Development Industrial Enterprises. Jiang Xinfang, President of Lygend Resources & Technology Co., Ltd., and Pang Xingjian, Senior Vice President of Schneider Electric and Head of Industrial Automation Business in China, as representatives of the participating companies, had conversations with Forbes China, discussing the original intention of their companies' candidacy and their understanding of the green transformation of industrial enterprises.

President of Lygend Resources & Technology Co., Ltd.

Jiang Xinfang

Forbes China: In what ways can sustainable development bring value to industrial enterprises?

Jiang Xinfang: Every enterprise is committed to becoming an enterprise of sustainable development, and more and more enterprises are even integrating sustainability into their development strategies, including Lygend Resources. Implementing sustainable development strategies is conducive to promoting the unity of ecological, economic, and social benefits, as well as enhancing corporate social responsibility. By balancing environmental and energy resources, etc., we can realize economic development while addressing global sustainable challenges and jointly creating a better future.

Forbes China: What are the difficulties in the digital transformation of industrial enterprises?

Jiang Xinfang: To achieve high-quality development in the industry, digital transformation and sustainable development should be paid attention to at the same time, and the key lies in collaborative innovation.

At present, Lygend has started a new attempt in intelligent construction. We have cooperated with partners such as Schneider Electric, SAP, and Zhejiang Supcon to build a project management and park operation information system, and create a green intelligent management platform to improve the efficiency of park project management and production operation, and significantly reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. In production and operation, we include control indicators for energy conservation and emission reduction in KPI for performance evaluation. We have established an intelligent control model for the entire process of laterite nickel hydrometallurgy to analyze the carbon emission intensity of each production process, calculate the carbon emissions per unit product and carbon footprint and plan targeted carbon reduction paths.

Forbes China: How do you view the path and future prospects of sustainable development for Chinese industrial enterprises?

Jiang Xinfang: Sustainable development is the common responsibility of all enterprises including Chinese industrial enterprises. With the development of the new energy vehicle industry and the gradual dominance of the ternary high nickel lithium battery technology path, the green MHP produced by Lygend Resources, as well as nickel sulfate and cobalt sulfate, have become the core key basic materials for the development of new energy vehicle power batteries. We have focused on the implementation of carbon reduction goals and measures in the construction and operation of these projects and have done a lot of effective work. We are closely following the pace of green development and setting high standards for green nickel technology. We continuously carry out manufacturing process optimization and comprehensively improve the low-carbon mode of operation. We attach great importance to the intensive utilization of resources and build a model of low-carbon and circular economy. In addition, we have collaborated with Shengyu Group to develop a comprehensive and advanced plan for the integration of urban industrial parks, ultimately achieving the integration of industry and city and creating harmonious, symbiotic and sustainable development.

As a full nickel industry chain service provider, we are among the top in the trade and production of nickel products. Lygend Resources adheres to the high-quality development concept of becoming bigger, stronger, and better, and will never change this adherence. We insist to the low-carbon and green smelting technology path and consider the long-term goals and relationships of balancing economic benefits and green development in a macro view. We are steadfast and advancing side by side, ultimately achieving an organic combination of the two partners and achieving dual harvests.

Forbes China: Why did you choose to participate in the selection of 2022 Forbes China Sustainable Industrial Enterprises?

Jiang Xinfang: Climate change is an important and urgent challenge facing the world, and it affects human survival and development from multiple dimensions such as environment, society and economy. Under the background of actively addressing global climate change and promoting green and low-carbon transformation and development, the energy sector is the main battlefield for achieving the "dual carbon" goals. Lygend Resources is committed to the efficient and comprehensive development and utilization of laterite nickel ore resources with a scientific development concept. We work together with partners to innovate and produce the basic raw materials required for new energy vehicle power batteries. At the same time, we expand our business into downstream sectors such as ternary materials, positive electrode materials, new energy batteries, and waste battery recycling. We are determined to let users and sectors use "green" nickel, and accelerate the accomplishment of the "dual carbon" goals.
